Job purposes:

  • For the successful launch, transferring & in/out-sourcing of the plastic molding production in Vietnam (incl. over-molding)
  • For the launch & transfer of related other semi-finished good parts, such as processed cable and connector
  • For the industrialization of other main finish good, such as Electro Magnetic Sensor (EMS) and Optoelectronic sensor
  • For ensuring the quality of production process are met (in term of overall yield & issued solved) within the defined product costs target, project budget and timeline

Major Accountabilities:

  • Molding information & requirement gathering & act as technical interface
    • (new mold – modified mold) Gather requirement and functional specification prepared together with internal customers (RND) and end-user (Production).
    • (outsourcing) Gather standardized specification related to mold & machine, especially on equipment available in Vietnam, to ensure the whole process (mold, parameters, and secondary process) used by suppliers can be transfer back to P+F (in-sourcing) at any point of time.
    • (transferring of current mold) Gather current mold information (age, condition, quality, shot count, design) and define the suitability for molding machine in Vietnam. Propose modification, refurbishment or new mold creation if applicable.
  • Plastic part design simulation (part DFM)
    • Define, design, develop, validate, deploy new mold (in liaison with suppliers) with cost effective solutions based on all requirement.
    • Conduct analysis and first principle calculation to verify design, simulation mold design by simulation software e.g. MoldFlow (material, cavity layout, gate layout, shot weight, cooling, hot runner, material flow, temperature control, pressure control, etc) to optimize the designs.
    • Review and provide feedback to R&D on the drawing material, dimension, feature which impact on mold design (shot weight, gate position, temperature, etc), mold process (hook, etc).
  • Mold design review (DFM), first article inspection (FAI) and gate review together with supplier (T1, T2, T3, ect), including modification & transferreing of process from suppliers to P+F (in-sourcing) or from P+F to supplier (out-sourcing)
    • Coordinate, review & finalize mold design (DFM) with internal customer (RND), other IE team (ST) and follow up with supplier for fabrication
    • Estimate timeline and cost for mold fabrication & release.
    • Coordinate overall mold purchasing process (quotation, procurement, payment, shipping, customs, etc). Take special notice on custom regulation for export free zone (EPZ)
    • Perform technical assessment on spare-parts (hot runner, sensors, mold-insert, etc.).
    • Coordinate with R&D to identify critical dimensions (including tolerance) for FAI.
    • Setup the mold for the build & perform mold trial run (if run in-house) or coordinate with suppliers for mold trial run (if outsourced).
    • Coordinate with IQC department for part measurement (if run in-house)
    • Verify part measurement versus critical dimension, get consult from customer (RND)
  • Molding machine & auxiliary equipment review, purchase & release.
  • Molding process creation & release
  • Molding product structure creation
  • Cable & connector launch & transfer
  • Other responsibilities

Role Requirements:

  • Minimum a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering Master Degree is an added advantage
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience in manufacturing with at least 5 years as process engineer in molding environment, preferably high-precision molding
  • Proficient in English for both verbal and written communication
  • Possess strong mechanical engineering knowledge and experience in dealing with design drawing. Can read, draw, modify, review CAD drawing (for part and mold) using industrial tools (Creo, SolidWorks and similar) and communicate with suppliers and RND effectively
  • Possess in-depth knowledge and experience about injection molding process, incl. mold making, machine, secondary process & overall molding setup (storage, transport, measurement, planning). The molding knowledge should be in the following area:
    • material selection based on its property & flow (plastic viscosity, pressure, temperature)
    • drawing critical dimension review
    • drawing features (hook, undercut, etc.) and its impact on mold design
    • understanding mold design (steel properties, roughness, hardness & mold structure)
    • perform mold simulation for DFM, DFMEA, review & verification (material, cavity layout, gate layout, shot weight, cooling, hot runner, material flow, temperature control, pressure control, etc)
    • experience using mold simulation software (e.g. MoldFlow, etc)
    • provide mold cost estimation
    • perform mold setup & maintenance
    • setup, operate & maintain machine (horizontal & vertical system) + auxiliary equipment
    • define, verify molding parameters
    • use molding production planning system (ERP & other system connect to ERP)
  • The cable harnessing knowledge should be in the following area:
    • Cable cutting & stripping machine verification and setup
    • Cable crimping machine & tools setup and verification acc. to industrial standard
    • Connector over-molding process setup and verification
  • Have project management skill, able to plan and adapt quality, cost, time depending on different scenario.
  • Good problem solving skills with track record
  • Understand preventive maintenance methodology & execution
