Sustainability means more than conserving resources. It also means giving things a meaningful second life instead of letting them gather dust. When we at Pepperl+Fuchs realized that thousands of hula hoops, previously used as promotional giveaways at events, were still in stock, we asked ourselves one simple question: Where could these hula hoops truly make a difference?
The answer came quickly.
Passing on what brings joy
Through our local network as part of the Local Green Deals initiative, we got in touch with the city of Mannheim and the local sports club TSG Seckenheim. The solution was as simple as it was effective:
- Around 2,500 hula hoops were donated to the city of Mannheim and will now be used in daycare centers, kindergartens, and other institutions
- Another 1,350 hula hoops werde donated to TSG Seckenheim, where they will also be used to encourage play and physical activity
Representatives from the city and the sports club came to our site in person to collect the hula hoops. Uncomplicated, direct and with a real added value for the community.

More than just a donation
This initiative is about more than simply passing on hula hoops. It reflects what matters to us at Pepperl+Fuchs: using resources responsibly and creating positive impact together. By passing on the hula hoops and giving them a second life, we make a difference together and make a small contribution to avoiding waste. At the same time, the collaboration between company, the city, and the sports club shows what is possible when everyone works toward a common goal.
Sometimes, meaningful change doesn’t require a major project. Sometimes, all it takes is a hula hoop to inspire children to be active and to demonstrate what living our responsibility looks like in everyday life.
