Get off to a sustainable and safe start!

Sustainability, environmental protection, energy management, health protection, and occupational safety—these were the key topics on September 7 and 8 during the induction event for new dual-study students. The event was organized by Pepperl+Fuchs’ Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) and Corporate Sustainability teams and featured engaging presentations, site tours, and interactive activities.

The two-day event offered a varied mix of presentations, interactive games, and practical insights. “It was important to us to establish a basic understanding of sustainability, environmental protection, energy management, health, and safety,” explains Nadine, Sustainability Manager at Pepperl+Fuchs. “In day-to-day business, there is usually no single way of doing things. Different aspects of sustainability often need to be considered, and these can sometimes involve conflicting interests.”

Learning, discovering, getting involved

During a series of presentations, the new dual-study students learned about topics including environmental management, energy management, water protection, and biodiversity. They also explored management systems, the safe handling of hazardous substances, workplace ergonomics, workplace hazards, personal protective equipment, accident management, and fire protection at Pepperl+Fuchs. Sustainability management and the company’s sustainability strategy were also key topics.

A tour of the company premises complemented the program with best-practice examples relating to these areas. The students gained insights into manufacturing and facility management. The practical side was not neglected either: In a role-play exercise, participants had to argue for or against a specific sustainability-related topic. During a game of bingo, they also explored the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in a fun and interactive way.

The induction days provided the new dual-study students with valuable knowledge while also showing them how sustainability and EHS are put into practice at Pepperl+Fuchs every day. And one thing is certain: Everyone in the company can contribute to sustainable development and EHS—regardless of their individual function or role.
